Dear St. Pius X Families,
Last March, before the first case of COVID-19 hit our state, our parish staff had begun discussing what ministry might look like in the case of a pandemic. In the midst of the disappointments, cancellations, frustrations of learning new technology, and increased anxieties about health, jobs, and many other things, we have known that God would also present opportunities. We could not have predicted that we would be in the situation we are in today, but continue to trust that the Holy Spirit is at work. God's plan cannot be inhibited by the challenges we are facing.
As we look toward this new faith formation year, I thank you so much for your patience in rolling out our registration and for your understanding that our programs will be taking a new form.
At St. Pius X in our formation programs we have the following as goals during this 2020-2021 year:
1. Support and nurture strong Catholic families.
2. Encourage and equip parents to live the faith and teach their children the faith.
3. Provide all our parents and young people opportunities to grow in faith.
4. Build community and celebrate Catholic life together through common prayer, service to others, social activities, and liturgical celebrations.
5. Partner with parents to prepare their children for Sacraments of Baptism, Confession, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
6. Creatively and safely provide formation so as to meet the varied needs of our families during the on-going pandemic.
With these goals in mind, we ask you to continue to pray that we can be open to the Holy Spirit as we take a new approach to faith formation. You may find more details, program descriptions, and registration info below. We ask for your continued patience and flexibility with us this year, as even the best laid plans may need to be altered as the year goes on. We would like to extend an invitation to every family in our parish to register for faith formation this year.
Schedule and Calendar for 2020-21 Faith Formation:
Our calendar this year will be released in semesters. Our first semester will not begin until late September/early October to allow our families and schools systems to adjust to the new school year. Our fall semester will conclude before Thanksgiving so as to allow families to travel and/or quarantine as needed over the holidays. It is our intention to continue the faith formation year in-person beginning in January, but will not finalize this calendar until December in case adjustments that need to be made.
All in-person gatherings for faith formation and youth ministry will follow CDC and diocesan guidelines, as well as state mandates regarding mask wearing, social distancing, and cleaning. A detailed plan will be communicated with each family that registers and will also be available on our website. Each family will also be asked to turn in a consent and liability form regarding COVID-19.
