Cantors play an essential role in both proclaiming the Word of God in song and inviting the faithful to join in sung prayer during the liturgies. To be a cantor requires more than just singing; it requires adequate preparation, an overall understanding of the Mass as well as the function of music its context, and a sense of ministry to the parish. Because of the prominent role the cantor plays in our liturgies, a certain level of musicianship and music reading ability is necessary.
Training for cantors is provided in a group setting once a year or individually by appointment with Matt Maus, Director of Music and Liturgy.
