Accompanists are music ministers who encourage the congregation to join fully in prayer through song. Accompanists are generally keyboardists (piano and/or organ) though guitarists are also welcome. Demonstrated level of music ability and parish specific training are necessary for all accompanists. Being an accompanist also requires adequate preparation, an overall understanding of the Mass and Church seasons as well as the function of music within their contexts, and a sense of ministry to the parish. Because of the prominent role the accompanist plays in our liturgies, a certain level of musicianship and music reading ability is necessary.
Training for accompanists is provided on an individual basis with Matt Maus, Director of Music and Liturgy. Young aspiring accompanists are very welcome at St. Pius X and mentoring opportunities for these students are available.
