Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

 

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults - a process for welcoming adult inquirers to the Catholic Church.

Purpose: to assist prospective Catholics to become active members of the faith community and to revive the missionary spirit of all members.

It is divided into four periods of time:

  1. Inquiry: Time to share stories, reflection on the place of God in our lives.

  2. Catechumenate: Time to develop understanding of church teachings, participate in liturgy of the Word and to become active in the faith community.

  3. Enlightenment and Purification: (Usually coincides with Lent) Time to deepen faith and prayer life Concludes with the sacraments of initiation - Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

  4. Mystagogia: Time to experience participation in the life of the faith community, share Eucharist, live and pray the gospel in daily life.
